SSSHARC Interdisciplinary Project
An interdisciplinary team from the Sydney School of Education and Social Work (SSESW), Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School [SNS]), and applied the LFC framework to nursing degrees to demonstrate its transferability to other professional education and training contexts.
Thematic data analysis identified three themes:
- the value of deep listening for engaging with affective knowledge
- the need for Country-centred learning and truth-telling to address knowledge gaps, and
- the impact of the program on practitioner identity and understanding their own positionality (the ‘why’).
On the basis of these studies, we recommend that:- The Learning from Country framework be incorporated into University of Sydney nursing degrees
- The Learning from Country framework be considered for inclusion in other University of Sydney professional degrees
- The Learning from Country framework be promoted in the context of a University-wide strategy for learning with Aboriginal communities.
