Interdisciplinary Impact

Interdisciplinary Impact

SSSHARC Interdisciplinary Project

An interdisciplinary team from the Sydney School of Education and Social Work (SSESW), Susan Wakil School of Nursing and Midwifery (Sydney Nursing School [SNS]), and applied the LFC framework to nursing degrees to demonstrate its transferability to other professional education and training contexts.

Thematic data analysis identified three themes:

  1. the value of deep listening for engaging with affective knowledge
  2. the need for Country-centred learning and truth-telling to address knowledge gaps, and
  3. the impact of the program on practitioner identity and understanding their own positionality (the ‘why’).

On the basis of these studies, we recommend that:
    • The Learning from Country framework be incorporated into University of Sydney nursing degrees
    •  The Learning from Country framework be considered for inclusion in other University of Sydney professional degrees
    • The Learning from Country framework be promoted in the context of a University-wide strategy for learning with Aboriginal communities.
