Description circles
The dark blue acknowledges that Country is strong—it is “full” of knowledge. The light blue circles represent the “activity” emanating and rippling throughout the Learning from Country processes which include deep listening to Aboriginal community voices and truth telling. There is a rippling of knowledge and relational connections that flow from one waterhole to the next. As each waterhole ripples with new knowledge and impacts on existing knowledge, it flows into the next waterhole. The connecting waterways between the waterholes represent the ebb and flow of knowledges and understandings that ripple through each waterhole. (Burgess et al., 2022a, p. 164)

The Learning From Country Framework
- Philosophically, it positions Aboriginal voices and Country as centre and foundation of all learning, an ethical, respectful and accountable position essential for enacting the framework
- Conceptually, the framework provides educators with an understanding of the world through an Aboriginal lens in relatable and unique ways that encourage and reassure authenticity
- Methodologically, the framework articulates clear, actionable and accessible processes that support reparative justice
Four key processes
Country-centred relationships requires deep listening to and learning from Country, is articulated through individual and collective Aboriginal voices, experiences and relationships with Country and community over time.
Relating Aboriginal-led truth-telling makes visible the relational processes involved in engaging with diverse Aboriginal communities, experiences, and knowledges of local cultures, identities, and histories.
Critical engagement prompts conscientisation and knowledge sharing in the co-production of knowledge to facilitate new imaginings, expectations, responsibilities, and possibilities
Mobilising enacts Country-inspired ways of valuing, being, and knowing, and reparative action.
